What counts toward limits
- Scans count each time a customer submits the review form under your slug — a rating, not a page load. Loading the page does not count. Free is capped at 50 scan submissions / month / location; paid plans are unlimited.
- Replies count every reply you send out — AI-drafted, manually-typed, template-based, or published to Google. One shared pool, counted per location. The monthly cycle resets on your billing-anniversary day — the same day of the month your business started — not on the 1st.
- Locations count active locations. Soft-deleted locations within the 48-hour recovery window still count.
Detailed quota mechanics are in the AI replies doc.
How payments work
Starvo uses Dodo Payments as Merchant of Record. That means:
- Your invoices come from Dodo Payments, not Starvo. The line item is Starvo.
- Dodo handles tax (VAT, GST, sales tax) for the jurisdiction you're billing from. You don't need to configure tax.
- Starvo never sees or stores your card details. Dodo holds the payment instrument.
- Refunds and chargebacks go through Dodo. Starvo can initiate a refund on your behalf via support.
- Subscriptions are monthly, no annual lock-in.
Your current plan, renewal date, and a Manage subscription button all live on Dashboard → Billing on one page.
Upgrading
1. Go to Dashboard → Billing
Each plan card shows its features and an Upgrade button.
2. Click the plan you want
Starvo opens a Dodo Payments checkout in a new tab with the right product pre-selected.
3. Pay
Enter card details, confirm. Dodo processes the payment.
4. The plan flips
Dodo sends a webhook to Starvo. Your plan flips within seconds. Plan-gated features (Google integration on Starter, team invites on Pro, API access on Pro Max) become available immediately.
The checkout is hosted by Dodo. Your card never reaches Starvo's servers.
Downgrading
Click the lower plan's card on Dashboard → Billing. The change takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep your higher-tier features until then, no refund for the unused portion.
When the downgrade takes effect:
- Features outside your new plan stop working at the next API call (no grace period).
- Locations beyond the new limit are locked in your dashboard — you cannot send replies, invite staff, or change settings for them. Customers can still leave reviews (the Google review link must always work), and those reviews show in your dashboard with an upgrade prompt. Upgrade again or delete down to the new limit to unlock them.
- Team members at locations beyond the new limit lose access. Re-assign or remove before downgrading if you want to keep specific members.
Invoices and receipts
Every successful payment generates an invoice from Dodo Payments. Two ways to access:
- Email. Dodo emails a receipt to the billing email when each charge succeeds.
- Dodo customer portal. Click Manage subscription on Dashboard → Billing — you land in the Dodo customer portal where every past invoice is downloadable as PDF.
The sender on the receipt email is Dodo Payments; the line item is Starvo.
Refunds
Subscriptions are billed monthly and all sales are final. Starvo does not refund partial months, unused time, or accidental purchases — see the Terms of Service for the exact wording.
This is why Starvo has a genuine free plan: try the product for as long as you want, on a real workload, before you ever pay. When you do upgrade, you can cancel any time and keep your plan until the end of the period you already paid for — you are never charged again after cancelling.
If something is genuinely broken on Starvo's side, email support@starvo.app — we will make it right.
Cancelling
Dashboard → Billing → click Manage subscription → Dodo customer portal → Cancel subscription. No phone calls, no retention emails, no “before you go” surveys.
After cancellation:
- Your paid features stay live until the end of your current billing period.
- At period end, your account drops to the Free plan automatically. Your data is preserved.
- If your data exceeds Free-plan limits (more than 1 location, etc.), the excess becomes read-only — not deleted.
To delete your account entirely (not just cancel), go to Dashboard → Settings → Delete account. That triggers a 48-hour soft delete with a recovery window, after which all data is permanently removed.
Referrals
Every Starvo account has a unique referral code in the “Share & grow” section of your dashboard. When a business signs up with your code and subscribes to a paid plan, you earn a free plan for 14 days — one tier below what they bought:
- They subscribe to Pro → you get Starter free for 14 days.
- They subscribe to Pro Max → you get Pro free for 14 days.
- They subscribe to Starter → no reward (Starter is the entry tier).
The reward is capped at Pro — a referral never grants Pro Max. If you are already on an equal or higher paid plan the reward is skipped (we never downgrade a paying account). One reward is active at a time; a higher-tier referral replaces a lower one and resets the 14-day clock. One reward per referred account. Self-referrals (signing up with your own code from a different email) are detected and rejected automatically.
Troubleshooting
I paid but my plan didn't change
Click Refresh subscription on Dashboard → Billing. This re-pulls your subscription status from Dodo and applies the right plan. If it still shows the wrong plan after refresh, email support@starvo.app with your account email and the Dodo charge ID.
I was double-charged
Should not happen — Dodo dedupes its own retries, and our webhook handler is idempotent per Dodo event ID. If it did, email support; we'll refund the duplicate and investigate.
The checkout link doesn't open
Browser popup blocker. Allow popups for starvo.app, refresh, click the plan again.
My card was declined
Most often: international card and your bank requires 3D Secure approval that the browser blocked. Try a different card, or contact your bank to whitelist online payments to Dodo.
I downgraded by accident
If the downgrade hasn't taken effect yet (it kicks in at period end), open Dashboard → Billing and re-upgrade — the queued downgrade is overwritten by the new plan choice. If it already took effect, just upgrade again; there's no penalty.
